A NEW centre for young people in crisis with mental health problems has been proposed for a bed and breakfast hotel.

Sarah Beaumont has applied for planning permission for the conversion of the building in Blackburn Road in Darwen, which has nine rooms for nine guests. into a therapeutic placement centre,

Mrs Beaumont's agent Trevor Hobday Associates tells Blackburn with Darwen Borough Planners the new use will have five en-suite bedrooms.

Its supporting document says: "The vision is to support young people in ‘crisis’ from mental health difficulties, both male and female aged approximately 10 to 20 years.

"The placement will be staffed 24 hours and seven days per week. The placement will have on average two support workers on duty and a registered mental health nurse during the day. There will be two staff on duty at night."
