THE number of pupils studying at schools rated 'good' or 'outstanding' any inspectors in a borough has more than doubled.

At the start of the 2010-11 academic year, only 5,811 places in Pendle were at schools judged by Ofsted inspectors to meet its two highest ratings

By the beginning of the current 2017/2018 school year the number of good or outstanding school places had increased to 12,099.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said, “When I was first elected, too many schools in Pendle were underperforming. Huge progress has been made in just a few years and I am delighted our schools are being transformed.

“This dramatic improvement has been down to government action including academisation. However, none of this would have been possible without leadership from head teachers and the hard work of their staff."
