A TOWN centre is set to get a sweet treat with a new event.

Accrington is set to host its first chocolate festival in the new £2million town square on September 1.

There will be a wide range of chocolate-themed stalls including: chocolate sprinkled meat pies, chocolate pizza, chocolate churros, chocolate truffles, chocolate cookies, chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge, chocolate puddings, chocolate fountain, and more.

Guests will be able to sample more goodies and browse handmade stalls by venturing inside the ballroom in the town hall, with chocolate gin being served on the balcony outside.

There will also be children’s Miss Wonka’s Workshop every hour, on the hour inside the Town Hall run by Just Imagine North West ,and chocolate wrestling.

Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “The initiative is really all about engaging with the community, showcasing what the town has to offer, and encouraging a wider audience to come and visit, helping local businesses increase footfall."

"It’s also a fantastic opportunity to introduce new traders to Accrington. The council is incredibly proud to support events going on in the area.”

The festival is sponsored by Property Shop, and managing director Steven Chippendale said: “We know that events in Accrington are hugely successful and we’re anticipating this one will be the same.

“As a local business, it’s important to all of us to be involved with the local community in any way we can be. Supporting events going on in the town is a huge part of this.”

Danielle Smith, managing director of Just Imagine North West, said: “Children will be able to join us on the day, every hour, on the hour for Master Chocolatier Workshops. They will join Little Miss Wonka in the Invention room, within the town hall, for interactive story telling, invention tasting and Master Chocolatier Training to gain their official certificate and a chocolate treat!”

The festival will take place on the same day as the Rally Challenge outside Accrington Market Hall with a live demonstration at Accrington and Rossendale College, as well as the Soapbox Challenge at the college in the afternoon.
