Tony Mowbray revealed there are three deals "on the move" in his bid to add to his Rovers squad.

The boss is eyeing up to four new recruits before the loan window closes and hopes a new face will arrive before Saturday's trip to Hull City.

Rovers were frustrated in their attempts to bring in players before the permanent transfer deadline on August 9, with bids for Luke Freeman of QPR and Nottingham Forest attacker Ben Brereton rejected.

Nineteen-year-old Brereton is one of the deals Rovers are understood to be working on in the loan market.

Clubs have until August 31 to make loan signings, with Rovers currently have just one loanee in Chelsea attacker Kasey Palmer on their books.

Adding a note of caution when asked about potential incomings, Mowbray said: “We probably will have, but we might not.

“We’re working on three, there’s three on the move, whether they hit the buffers and don’t happen we’ll wait and see.

“They might all come in a short space of time, who knows, let’s wait and see.

“What I do know is that we need to add to the quality. There were parts that showed we’re still a little bit off and need to strengthen in certain areas of the pitch.”

One deal Rovers did get done before the first window closed was bring in Adam Armstrong from Newcastle for £1.75m.

The 21-year-old scored twice on his first start since returning to the club in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win at Carlisle United in a central striking role.

Mowbray added: “He can score with both feet, he can nick a goal diving across the six yard line, he scores all types of goals. I’m not sure about towering over centre halves to score headers, so if Adam is playing up front we have to tinker with the type of delivery we put in to the box. But he can score goals, sharp as a razor.

“Some games will demand a certain type of striker and if we see a weakness in a team then we will go with another striker and see if we need Adam as another attacking option and play off the from the left or the right, or on the bench, and see how the game has gone on.”

Danny Graham wasn't involved against his former club, and Mowbray said of the 33-year-old: “He has been managing his knee a little bit and I didn’t think there was any need.

“I wanted to give Adam the opportunity on a big pitch here to play up front.

“We gave Danny the night off.

“He’s not injured, there’s just an awareness that he is icing his knee a little bit and we need to give him time. He will be back training on Thursday and we’ll be preparing the team for Hull.”
