AN OFFICE unit could be converted into a new cafe.

Plans have been submitted to Blackburn with Darwen Council proposing to turn the empty space at Blackburn Technology Management Centre in Challenge Way into a cafe.

The centre, which was built about 25 years ago, houses more than 20 businesses but currently does not have any cafe or restaurant facilities.

Angela Drane, of Food by Angela, is behind the application.

She plans to relocate her business from nearby Glenfield Park.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application reads: "This is an industrial area with many other business parks and businesses around BTMC.

"There are no residential dwellings for approximately a quarter of a mile in any direction.

"There are double doors to the front of the unit allowing direct and level access from the adjacent car park for both able-bodied and disabled access.

"The other entrance is on the opposite wall of the unit and leads on to the corridor with the business centre.

"There are separate ladies, gents and a disabled toilet which will be usable and accessible to customers."

Opening hours for Food by Angela are 7.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday and it is proposed these would remain the same at the new site.

It is hoped the development could lead to the business taking on another part time member of staff if approved.
