LANCASHIRE County Council Cabinet's decision yesterday have decided to lower the road surface temperature for gritting roads has been attacked by Labour.
Opposition highways spokeswoman Erica Lewis said reducing changing the threshold from one degree Celsius to half a degree was 'a disaster waiting to happen.'
The move could save £110,000 a year, by reducing the number of network gritting treatments during the winter.
Cllr Lewis said “After what has been described as one of the worst winter on record, the Conservative administration's response is to cut winter gritting. This is a disaster waiting to happen."
Cllr Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways, said: “This means we will only grit those roads that we need to without compromising safety, and making significant savings.”
