A COUNCIL boss has promised to ensure that yellow stickers instructing people how to use new parking payment machines are in place.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough's environment boss Jim Smith made the pledge after a complaint from a driver.

The 59-year-old from Fensicowles was fined after he could not work the machine on Lord Street West in Blackburn because the sticker telling him which button to press to start the solar powered instruction display was missing in May.

He said it was still missing this week adding: "Innocent motorists will get parking fines because of this."

Cllr Smith said: "I will ensure the sticker is back in place on the Lord Street West machine.

"I will remind our civil enforcement officers they should check instruction stickers are in place and arrange for them to be replaced if they are missing."
