Rovers head in to transfer deadline day still looking to do permanent deals before the 5pm cut-off point.

An ambitious move for a Premier League attacker could be the headline deal of today as Tony Mowbray looks to further strengthen his squad.

Permanent deals will take priority but the boss is understood to be relaxed over the 5pm deadline, with EFL clubs still able to sign players on loan until August 31.

Mowbray has already stated he is open to loan deals with permanent clauses inserted in a bid to afford him more time to bring in the reinforcements he wants.

However, Rovers will hope to do at least one piece of business today, with the boss still keen to make around four more additions to his squad before the end of the month, and has the money to do so.

A striker is near the top of Mowbray’s wishlist, as is a new central defender, with a deal to bring Charlton Athletic’s Patrick Bauer now looking unlikely.

Mowbray revealed on Tuesday that Rovers had ‘moved on’ from their pursuit of the 25-year-old because of the League One club’s reluctance to sell and a £2m valuation placed on his head.

Mark Beevers, of Bolton Wanderers, had been sounded out as a possible alternative, but that isn’t a deal which is thought to be progressing at this stage.

Central midfield and in goal are other areas of the squad which Mowbray may look to strengthen, but his squad certainly looks a lot healthier following the additions of Adam Armstrong and Kasey Palmer in the last 10 days.

News broke last night that Rovers had tabled a £4m bid for QPR playmaker Luke Freeman, with suggestions down south that could tempt the Loftus Road club in to a sale.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that there is Rovers interest in US international midfielder Wil Trapp, of Columbus Crew.

Reports across the Atlantic suggest Rovers have seen a $1.25m bid rejected for the 25-year-old, with the MLS Eastern conference side set to be holding out for closer to $3m.

However, Mowbray has showed he is prepared to wait for his targets, as he did with Amari’i Bell and Joe Rothwell.

And with the deadline a matter of hours away, a deal to bring Trapp to Ewood Park this summer appears unlikely.

As for potential outgoings, the Rovers chief revealed there had been enquiries made for some of his fringe players, but there aren’t expected to be any departures from Ewood Park today.

Rovers aren’t actively looking to lose any player this month, though they may opt to take up interest in some of their young players later in the month.

So far, young defenders Matty Platt and Scott Wharton have left on loan for Accrington Stanley and Lincoln City respectively, while several clubs are understood to have enquired about the loan availability of Joe Nuttall.
