A NEW production charting the time when Darwen FC defied the odds to be the first working class team in the country to play in the FA Cup is coming ‘home’.

The Giant Killers will be performed at Darwen Library Theatre in October.

The uplifting play tells the story of the misfit bunch of mill workers from the town who found pride and hope in a game that up until then had been reserved for the upper classes.

Set in the 1870s when the cotton famine was hitting the industrial mill towns hard, Darwen FC broke with convention and become the original giant killers when they found themselves facing he “poshest team of all” – The Old Etonians – in the FA Cup at the Kennington Oval.

It’s the story of a town that came together to achieve the impossible and win the respect of the nation.

The show had its premier at the Edinburgh Festival last year gaining five star reviews for the Long Lane Theatre Company.
