A CANNABIS farm has been uncovered in Nelson.

Neighbourhood policing teams discovered and dismantled the cannabis farm set-up in Vicarage Road, Nelson, last night.

Officers said every room and cupboard in the house was being used to grow cannabis at a different stages of growth.

It showed it had been producing quite a yield of cannabis for some time.

Police have removed the whole set-up including transformers, lights, large extraction units, plants and plant food.

Police said nearly every room of the house was left damaged by the operation, with damage including holes cut into the roof and electricity wires dangerously installed all over the house.

They said damage will cost several thousands of pounds to redecorate and make safe for future tenants.

Two men have been arrested at the address and spent the night in custody and are expected to be charged this morning.

A police spokesman said: "A 43-year-old man and a 30-year-old man from Nelson have been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and remain in custody.

"Regardless of all the other discussions regarding this controlled substance - please take a moment to spare a thought for the landlord of this premises who has had nearly every room damaged by these criminals.

"Including holes cut into the roof and electricity wires dangerously installed all over the house risking a serious supply overload and fire affecting this house and the neighbouring properties and their safety.

"This is going to cost several thousands of pounds to redecorate and make safe for future tenants."

It comes after a 'large' cannabis farm was discovered in Nelson by police officers at around 4pm on Saturday.

Several plants were found, as well as equipment including lights and fans.
