There were smiles across hundreds of faces as families enjoyed the Roe Lee Park summer fair on Saturday.

More than 800 people gathered at the park in Blackburn and took part in a variety of activities including donkey rides, a climbing wall, a bungee bouncing ride, face painting, a giant inflatable slide, as well as live music, food stalls and fairground rides.

Jason Walker, of the Friends of Roe Lee Park group, who organised the event, said, despite the dull weather, the day was a success.

He said: "It has been super.

"We were in competition with the Royal Lancashire Show and an event at Witton Country Park, but loads of people came here nonetheless.

"We want to be as inclusive as possible and provide a cheaper, enjoyable date out for families, young, old - everyone."
