A HIGH number of calls flooded into police as they endured a busy time last night.

Officers were involved in a pursuit at around 10.15pm on Preston Old Road, Blackburn, of a white Ford Transit van which failed to stop.

Following a pursuit, the driver abandoned the vehicle on Swan Street and then ran along the canal onto B&Q car park.

Police Dog Nouchka searched the car park and detained a man.

He was later identified to be one of the police's key wanted targets and was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

Elsewhere, police received several calls from St John Street in Darwen between 1.30am and 2.30am.

Two men had been seen acting suspiciously in the area and looking around people's gardens.

Officers searched the area and located two men who matched the descriptions and following a search were found in possession of a number of tools.

Both were arrested for going equipped for theft.

Then at 2.50am, officers received a report of an intruder alarm at Rishton Conservative Club. Officers attended the scene and located a male trying to escape in possession of an amount of cash and suspected stolen property.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and the property returned to its owner.

Police were also called at 4.30am after a man in a balaclava attempted to force open the drive through window at McDonalds, Rising Bridge with a crowbar but was disturbed by staff.

Officers then sighted a vehicle believed to be involved nearby and began a pursuit.

The vehicle was abandoned on Rock Street, Baxenden.

Enquiries locally have led to an arrest of a man on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving,
