A MAN pulled a metal file from under his shirt during a row with a woman on a supermarket car park.

Blackburn magistrates heard a couple sitting in their car witnessed the incident and called the police.

McMillan, 32, of Barden Lane, Burnley, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and using threatening behaviour and on a separate occasion theft of jackets worth £370 from Sports Direct.

He was jailed for a total of 21 weeks.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said the incident happened at 4.30pm on the car park of Aldi in Burnley.

As he passed their vehicle he was arguing with the female and then lifted up his shirt and produced the file with a wooden handle.

"They heard him shout that he was going to kill someone," said Miss Akhtar.

Nick Dearing, defending, said McMillan had gone to the store with the female and they were arguing because she was planning to go shoplifting.

"They are both members of the drug community and he is almost looking forward to a custodial sentence to give him a chance to address his problems," said Mr Dearing.
