BURNLEY have held talks with Swansea City over Alfie Mawson, as well as Sam Clucas.

While the Clarets have had conversations with the South Wales club over both players, the Lancashire Telegraph understands there has been no formal offer made for either.

Burnley are long-term admirers of the versatile Clucas, having tried to sign him a year ago when he moved from Hull City to the Liberty Stadium instead.

The Clarets had two bids rejected by the Tigers last year but the 27-year-old endured a frustrating first season at the Liberty Stadium, making just 23 starts at the Swans were relegated from the Premier League.

Sean Dyche is keen to add to his options out wide following the departure of Scott Arfield and the return to Tottenham of loan man Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, and Clucas is an option.

Dyche is also keen to strengthen at centre back, having gone through last season with just Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Kevin Long available.

Despite Swansea’s relegation Mawson impressed last season as the 24-year-old started every Premier League game.

His form earned him an England call-up for the friendlies in March against Holland and Italy, although he didn’t feature in either game.

West Ham have been linked with Mawson throughout the summer but are yet to get a deal over the line.

While the Clarets have expressed an interest in the former Brentford defender, a deal remains unlikely at this stage.
