A CAR was torched outside a home causing a fierce fire.

One crew was called to the blaze at 10pm on Tuesday in Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, where an Audi A5 was on fire.

One eyewitness said: “The car was up on the pavement so it was quite close really and it was lucky it did not spread to the houses.

“There's a shop there too which can be quite busy so it was lucky nobody was hurt.

“We were sat chatting in the living room and I saw a big flash of yellow coloured light outside the window and then an alarm sounding.

“My friend's house is immediately opposite where the car was so we opened the door and were confronted with fire, smoke and a real stench of burning.

“We called the fire brigade but they were already on their way and arrived a few minutes later.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called by the fire brigade.

“The car was parked up on the side of the road and it is believed someone cut through the roof of the car. No arrests have been made and it is under investigation.

“We would appeal for anybody with information to get in touch with the us and report it online or you can ring 101 and the log number is 1613 on July 17.”
