A FOOTBALL charity has set a date for the opening of its new town centre kitchen.

Burnley FC in the Community is less than a month away from openings its new community kitchen, which will be based at the former J3 clothing store in Market Square, Burnley.

The project, which will be run by the charity, aims to help vulnerable families in Burnley by tackling health inequalities in the area.

It will feature a supermarket-style foodbank, a discount sportswear shop, library and a community café, which will include a seating area catered to at least 50 people.

Families will be taught about the importance of being active and eating a balanced diet, which will be accompanied by cooking workshops to help provide families with the right tools allowing them to be healthier and make positive lifestyle choices.

Cooking lessons will also be provided and staff will be on hand to help assess people’s needs.

Paul France, project lead at Burnley FC in the Community said: “Daily work continues on the Burnley Community Kitchen and we’re proud to see the many elements of the facility taking shape. We’ve come a long way over the past few months."

A total of 30 businesses have already donated home furniture, building materials and food products to community kitchen bosses.

Last year, Warburtons partnered with Burnley FC in the Community to help set up the new Families Health and Wellbeing project, and this partnership is to set to continue for a second year, resulting in a further £10,000 donation from Warburtons. This second donation will help with the running of the community kitchen in 2018/19.

Brett Warburton, Executive Director at Warburtons said: “We are delighted to be able to help Burnley FC in the Community with their Families Health and Wellbeing Programme.

"We aim to support projects and organisations that have real benefit to families in our local communities.

"This initiative is a great example of support being delivered directly to local families and we look forward to hearing how the project progresses throughout the year.”

Mr France added: "I’d like to extend my thanks to Warburton’s for their ongoing support with this project. We look forward to opening the doors to the town next month.”

The Market Square premises will open to the public on Monday, August 6.
