NINETEEN roads across Blackburn with Darwen Borough will be resurfaced next week to repair damage caused the severe winter.

The first repairs will start on Monday and the programme will be completed a week on Sunday subject to the weather remaining fine.

The 'surface dressing' will be carried out between 8am and 6pm by a contractor working for Blackburn with Darwen Council.

They will take place at 13 different locations in the borough and affect s19 roads and streets.

As part of the process, manhole and gully work will be carried out about one week later and replacement of road lines (for example disabled bays, H bars) will take place after this.

Council highways boss Cllr Phil Riley said: "This is important work.

"The winter has left us with an inheritance of potholes and damaged road surfaces.

"Surface dressing is one of the ways be can repair this and bring the roads affected up to a good standard for driver,"

Residents of the streets affected will shortly receive letters advising them of specific dates affecting them.

A council spokesman said: “To minimise disruption and enable the contractor to work as quickly as possible, we would be grateful if your street is identified for surface dressing works and you have a vehicle, if you would park it elsewhere prior to 8am. "

The spokesman added: “When the surface or sub-surface layers of the road have deteriorated to a point that they need to be replaced, we undertake resurfacing, by removing the existing layer and laying a new surface. ”
