PRO-BREXIT Tory MP Nigel Evans has backed Donald Trump over his criticism of the government’s White Paper on leaving the EU.

The US President has accused Theresa May of wrecking Brexit and warned her proposals may have killed off any US trade deal.

In a newspaper interview, Mr Trump said the Prime Minister ignored his advice in opting for a soft Brexit.

He said: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.”

Mr Evans said: “Asked a straight question, he gave a straight answer.

“If the White Paper prevents us from doing trade deals with the rest of the world, and most importantly the USA, then the White Paper has to be ripped up and we start again.”

Blackburn Labour MP Kate Hollern said: "Unless he has something constructive to say, President Trump should keep out of UK politics."

She added: "Any trade deal is some distance away. The White Paper is meaningless."
