A YOUNG man will climb Ben Nevis dressed as Mrs Brown from the popular sitcom – in tribute to his own ‘mammy’.

Taylor Connelly, 23, will scale the UK’s highest peak in Scotland in fancy dress to raise money for the hospice that cared for his mum.

His mother Isabelle Connelly died from cancer in 2015, and in her memory, he will hike 4,413ft to the summit with friend Ben Dodsworth.

The challenge will see him donning a dress and wig and taking part in the sponsored challenge dressed as Agnes Brown from one of his favourite TV shows Mrs Brown’s Boys.

He will take part in the challenge on July 19 – what would have been his mum’s birthday.

Taylor, from Darwen, said he will be raising money for East Lancashire Hospice, who he said provided ‘exceptional care’ to his mum.

He said: “In her final days, my mum received the highest level of care and was given the dignity she deserved by East Lancashire Hospice. The care was exceptional.

“It was obviously a very hard time for all the family, but the magical staff were incredible and so caring.

“They make the whole process as pain free as they can for both the patients and their families.”

Each year East Lancashire Hospice has to raise £3.7million of funding to enable it to continue to provide care to people with life-limiting illnesses in Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

He said: “My family are really proud of me. It will be tricky with the heat – especially wearing the costume.”

He added on his fundraising page: “I ask you to please donate whatever you can to my cause and help me to contribute to the hospice in order for them to continue the amazing service that they provide.”
