A GIANT screen will be put up in a town centre to broadcast the World Cup final matches.

People in Darwen will be able to watch the two last matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia on a 4m by 2m TV screen on the market square,on Croft Street.

This will include the screening of England's third place play off against Belgium on Saturday and the World Cup final between France and Croatia on Sunday.

Taps Bar, on Railway Road, Darwen has organised the event. Owner Gary Perkins said: "We decided to do it because of the atmosphere within the town.

"I have been watching the World Cup and lots of friends and thought it would be great if we put a big screen on.

"We would like to thank Colin Brown, who works for a building contractors at Darwen, who has helped finance the event."

There will also be food, including hot dogs and burgers, two outdoor bars set up, a live DJ performance, bouncy castles and an alcohol free zone. It will cost £1 to enter.
