A TRIO of festivals lead the way for weekend activities on in East Lancashire.

Witton Park in Blackburn plays host to the Wonderland in the Restricted Forest festival from 2pm to 11pm on Saturday.

With last entry at 9pm there will be a host of DJs, stage shows, a fairground and other entertainment.

An event spokesman said: “Become mesmerised as we enter the woods for another unique event this summer. This ain’t no tea party as we take your DJs and curious visuals into the restricted forest

“Expect everything that you would from a festival including DJs, live acts, stage shows, fairground rides, merchandise and rave gear stalls, licensed bars, and food kiosks.”

The event is for adults only and tickets are £20, and £10 for the after party.

Meanwhile, Orbital, Pete Tong, Artwork, Denis Sulta, Patrick Topping, Ben Sims, Camelphat, DJ Sing and MC Ad, Drumsound and Baseline Smith, Erol Alkan, Fisher and Bez are some of the acts performing at the Beat-Herder Festival. The three-day event finishes on Sunday and will see thousands of people flock to Sawley in the Ribble Valley.

An event spokesman said: “With over 20 whimsical stages, world class DJs, and many more, this event promises to deliver a mixture of dance cultures.”

Police and trading standards officers will be checking the age of anybody with an adult ticket who looks under the age of 25.

A police spokesman said: “Got an adult ticket for Beat Herder this weekend? If you’re lucky enough to look under 25 you’ll need a pass card, driving licence or passport to prove you’re 18 or over - these are the only forms of ID the festival accepts.”

In Rossendale there will be fun for all the family as the borough hosts its first-ever Waterfoot Wakes.

Organisers said the festival will put a modern twist on the traditional wakes holiday.

Starting with a parade through the town, the weekend will also feature comedy nights and performances at venues in Waterfoot, including The Boo, The Old Library Cafe, and The Co-op.

An event spokesman said: “Showcasing comedy, music, theatre and more, Waterfoot Wakes is set to delight and entertain adults and children alike.

“From lunchtime on Saturday we will be parading through Waterfoot to the tunes of Cacophany Arkestra, a fantastical carnival band experience that combines stunning visuals that you would expect to see at carnival with the musical stylings of calypso, jazz and afrobeat producing a carnival experience.”

For anyone looking to get their hands on an antique item or a collectable, the Clitheroe Sunday Collectors Flea market and car boot sale will run on Sunday from 10am until noon at the Clitheroe Auction Mart, Lincoln Way, Salthill Trading Estate.

With over 300 spaces, numerous stalls will sell antiques, collectables, secondhand and general goods.

On Saturday and Sunday, Gawthorpe Hall, Padiham, presens a weekend of RAF history, with the Battle of Britain Lace Panel: Then and Now.

In this RAF centenary year Carol Quarini has created a contemporary textile response to Gawthorpe Textiles Collection’s original Battle of Britain machine-lace panel.

Made in 1946, the panel commemorates the air battle that was a pivotal moment in World War II, and in which Flying Officer Richard, 2nd Lord Shuttleworth, was killed in action. The free exhibition, which runs from noon to 4.30pm, includes an installation of stylised parachute shapes.
