A SCHOOL celebrated the work of Gareth Southgate and the England football team by donning waistcoats to mark the occasion.

Ahead of England's tie with Croatia, teachers at Longshaw Juniors School in Blackburn wore the outfit the England manager has become known for during the tournament.

Staff at the school said pupils had been fully embracing the World Cup and enjoying England's journey and some of them also put on waistcoats to get in the spirit.

Deputy headteacher Jonathan Berry said: "We just read about people taking part in 'waistcoat Wednesday' and just thought it would be a great way to show support.

"Everyone at the school has been getting behind the team, it's great to see the nation coming together.

"It's not something that happens very much, so you remember where you were and what you were doing when they go on a run like this.

"I remember the last time we got the the semi-final 28 years ago."
