A GRASS fire which appeared just off the A56, near Rising Bridge, has been put out by firefighters.
At its peak eight fire engines were called to the 100 metre by 100 metre fire at around 3.20pm, yesterday.
Police closed the A56 from junction eight southbound, heading towards Haslingden, at around 6pm while firefighters dealt with the incident.
The road had been reduced to one lane from junction eight of the M65 while firefighters dealt with the fire and it was closed off while fire crews put the fire out.
A fire spokesman said: "The fire was under control fairly quickly before it could spread.
"Firefighters left the scene at around 8am this morning."
