A BANK has closed two of its branches in East Lancashire.
Santander in Padiham opened its doors to the public for the final time last week and has now shut following changes to the way people bank, bosses have said.
Around 200 people had signed a petition set up by Julie Cooper stop the closure of the bank last year to stop the closure of the last bank in Padiham, but the decision stood.
The St James Square bank has been open for several years but now people will have to travel more than three miles to St James's Street, Burnley, for the nearest Santander bank.
Another East Lancashire branch, which also closed last Thursday, was in St James Square, Bacup.
When the closure was first announced in December last year, a Santander spokesman said: "Increasingly customers are changing the way they choose to bank. As a result, some of our branches are being used less often."
