‘FOOTBALL’S coming home’ rang out across the town as more than 100 fans watched England’s second match of the World Cup on Blackburn’s new big screen.

Three Lions supporters back home may not have been dealing with the 31C heat out in Moscow but the soaring temperatures brought the crowds out in force in the town centre.

There was a great atmosphere as youngsters showed their support for Gareth Southgate’s side by sporting St George’s flags painted on their faces as well as wearing England colours.

It was a thumbs-up for the England side – who thrashed Panama – and also the big-screen on King William Street, outside Blackburn Town Hall.

Andy Miller, 41, from Blackburn, was impressed by the performance.

He said: “The general play and the movement was great.

“The win will mean that they can relax against Belgium.

“It sends out a message to Belgium that we are playing well.”

Gary Pentland, from Blackburn said: “I thought the performance was brilliant.

“The two penalties went in our favour and it is good to get out of the group.

“I think that we can make the quarter-finals or even the semi-finals but hopefully we can go all the way.”

Mr Pentland also praised the new screens.

He said: “I think they are a great idea. It brings people into the town and they can also go to the shops.

“It also means you can bring children instead of going to the pub.”

England ran out comfortable winners against World Cup first timers Panama.

They led 5-0 at half time and ran out 6-1 winners with captain Harry Kane grabbing a hattrick.

Cllr Andy Kay, who is responsible for the revolving digital hoardings, said: “It’s great that we could show the matches.

“It is proving popular especially with the weather and it is good that people are turning up to watch them even though it has not really been advertised.”
