FOOD was the order of the day at a youth hub as people celebrated the Great Get Together Weekend.

Blackburn Youth Zone hosted a 'Community Eat Together' in a bid to tackle hate.

The event on Saturday, the second of its kind, saw people of all ages, backgrounds and religions meet to share a meal together.

Around 80 people attended the event, held as part of a special nationwide weekend in memory of the life of the murdered Batley MP Jo Cox.

Mubashar Khaliq, youth and community manager at the youth zone, said: "This event is part of a nationwide initiative called the Great Get Together.

"There's events happening across the country over the weekend and the focus of the whole programme is on what we have in common and bringing people together."

Food was on offer ranging from cheese and onion pie to Asian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes.

Mr Khaliq added: "We've focused on ensuring that the food and drink on offer is as diverse as the communities that come.

"We're anticipating a really successful event."
