A SECURITY guard suffered a broken jaw during a ‘nasty’ attack five days into his new job.

Shakir Rana, 20, was repeatedly punched and kicked during his shift at his part-time job at Tenpin Blackburn at Peel Leisure and Retail Park on Saturday, March 3.

Mr Rana, who had moved to Blackburn from Pakistan five years ago, told BBC’s Crimewatch he had told a group of men, who were causing trouble, to leave.

Sometime later one of the men came back and punched Mr Rana in the face, knocking him to the floor, before punching and kicking him.

On the BBC show, Mr Rana said: “It was really painful, I can’t talk, I can’t eat, I cant bite or put pressure on my teeth, I feel pain.

“I remember everything that happened to me.

“Another security guard managed to prise the attacker off me before he could inflict more damage.

“The reason I came to here was to study for a better future, I wanted to do something for my family.

“I had never, ever been in trouble.”

The damage to Mr Rana’s face meant he was only able to drink through a straw and left unable to eat solid foods.

Mr Rana said: “After (the incident) I can’t go out, I’ve stopped going to college, I’ve stopped going to work, I’m scared.

“I don’t want him to do something with other people.”

People have been urged to get in touch with police if they recognise the man responsible for the attack.

Detective Constable Tony Roberts said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a defenceless man going about his daily business.

“I will ask the public to tell us who this man is and hopefully get him convicted for this horrific offence.”

Detective Sergeant John McNamara said: “This was a particularly nasty attack.

“It was a violent and unprovoked attack.

“Mr Rana is okay, psychologically he’s suffered from it.

“He’s not returned to work, he’s suffered a broken jaw.

“He’s still struggling to eat and drink.”

Police are also appealing for information after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in her home in Accrington on Friday, March 16.

The BBC programme revealed a man, a friend of the girl’s mother, and a man who he had only met that night, visited her home.

The pair were inside the house and one of the men asked to use the toilet, but was found a few minutes later inside the girl’s bedroom.
