A NEW transformer is being delivered to an electricity sub-station and it is expected to cause some traffic disruption.

It will be delivered to Padiham electricity sub-station at Shuttleworth Mead business park on Sunday (June 24).

Burnley Council said the delivery may mean some 'short delays' on roads in the area.

The transformer is being delivered by road from Preston docks and the journey is expected to take around four hours.

This is a wide heavy load and will be using a slow-moving transporter vehicle under police escort supported by a specialist haulage transport team.

The transformer will travel east on the M65 until junction seven, then the transformer will exit north onto the A6185 before turning right onto Blackburn Road to enter Shuttleworth Mead Business Park before reaching its destination in the early afternoon.

The transformer replacement is an upgrade to National Grid’s infrastructure and is part of its investment in the UK's network to ensure it continues to provide a secure and reliable electricity supply for future generations

The size of the transformer will limit the speed of the transporter vehicle to between 10 and 20 miles per hour.

For safety reasons, when travelling along narrow roads, a rolling road block will be used by police.

It will mean that other drivers will need to give way or stop for a short time before continuing their journeys once the load has passed.

National Grid will be keeping news and radio stations informed of the travel plans on the day.
