Matt Jansen has resigned as manager of Chorley.

The National League North side announced the shock news this morning.

Jansen leaves the club after three years in charge and it ends his eight-year association with the club which saw him serve as manager, assistant manager and player.

The 40-year-old has twice led the Magpies to the play-offs, as well as an eighth-placed finish in his first season in charge.

In 2017/18, they were beaten 2-1 by Harrogate Town who would eventually go on to secure promotion, while he also guided the club to the FA Cup first round where they were beaten by Fleetwood Town.

Jansen wished the club 'every success' for the club, with no reason given for his decision.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed all the years I’ve spent at Chorley FC,” Jansen told chorleyfc.com.

“I am sure the Club will go from strength to strength with the squad that has been assembled for the new 2018/19 season and wish the team every success in the years ahead.”

A club statement added: "This morning, with regret, we have accepted Matt Jansen’s resignation as manager of Chorley Football Club with immediate effect.

"We would like to put on record our appreciation for all that Matt has achieved in eight years of service as player, coach and manager and wish him all the best for the future."

Jansen was a favourite at Rovers during his seven years at Ewood Park in which he scored 57 times.
