A ENGLAND fan who had been drinking strong cider while watching his team win in the World Cup assaulted his partner when they got home.

Blackburn magistrates heard police were called by a neighbour who heard Adam Dyer’s girlfriend screaming for help.

And she later told police Dyer had a bad temper but never “went off” with the pets or the children, only her.

Dyer, 30, of Manor Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days’ rehabilitation activity requirement and fined £200 with £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge. He was made subject to a restraining order for 12 months which prohibits him from having any contact with the aggrieved or entering Manor Street, Accrington.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said the couple had been round to friends to watch the football and Dyer was drinking strong cider. She said there was no problem while they were there but she could feel tension growing and knew he was going to get angry when they got home.

“She went to sleep on the sofa but he followed her and when she went to the spare bedroom he hit her on the nose, causing it to bleed,” said Mrs Yates. “She sat down crying before going to check on the children.”

Gareth Price, defending, said his client told a different story about how the row, which he described as “lively on both sides,” started.

“He had scratches on his chest but accepts his reaction went beyond what would be legitimate self-defence,” said Mr Price.

He said Dyer had hoped for a speedy reconciliation and it had come as a blow to hear his partner wanted a restraining order.
