A TEENAGER who was hit by a car in Burnley has died.

The 18-year-old has died five days after he was struck by a black VW Golf while crossing the road on Springfield Road, near to the junction with Hollingreave Road, Burnley, on Saturday at 11.45pm.

The man, who is from Burnley, was left with serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital. He died from his injuries earlier this afternoon.

Two people were arrested. A 36-year-old woman from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 25-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and causing serious injury through dangerous driving.

The 25-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of making off without payment in relation to an earlier incident.

Both have now been released on police bail until July 13 pending further enquiries.
