A MAN has been stabbed with a screwdriver at a house. 

Officers were called shortly after 1pm on Sunday to a report a man had been stabbed in Townsend Street, Haslingden. 

The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital to be treated.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 36-year-old man from Rossendale was arrested on suspicion of assault, affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was later detained under the Mental Health Act. 

Rossendale Police said on Facebook that when officers arrived at the house, they were threatened by a man carrying knives and a hammer.

After using a taser and speaking to him, the man dropped the weapons and was arrested by officers. 

They said he is now being housed at Greenbank police station and will be interviewed.

They said: “Officers attended a report of a stabbing in Haslingden. The injuries are not suspected to be life threatening. Officers have attended the suspects address in order to effect their arrest and have been threatened by the male suspect who was in possession of knives and a hammer. With the assistance of taser and a bit of verbal persuasion the suspect dropped the weapons and was arrested by officers without injury to any party. He is now housed at Greenbank and will be interviewed in due course

Inspector Ilyas Mohmed, of Blackburn Police, said: “We were called to reports a man had stabbed someone in a house in Townsend Street, Haslingden, at about 1pm yesterday.

“A person suffered a stab wound following the incident.

“The man then threatened officers and had to be tasored and detained.

“CID are now investigating and the man will be questioned.”
