FAMILIES from all walks of life enjoyed the Eid in the Park event this weekend.

Hundreds of people gathered at Corporation Park in Blackburn as part of the Eid celebrations.

Among those at the event, which was part of the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, were Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray and winger Elliott Bennett.

Mr Mowbray said: “It’s great to be here and be part of an event that is open to people from all walks of life. With these events the goal is to bring together the community.

“We are looking forward one day going to a match and seeing a young Muslim player at Ewood Park and for him to become a real role model for the community.”

Despite the dull weather, there was lots of activities to get involved with, including face painting, henna painting, fairground rides, archery, a penalty shoot-out and stalls selling a variety of goods.

Mr Mowbray and Mr Bennett took turns to score goals in the penalty shoot-out as fans watched on.

Mr Bennett said: “It’s fantastic to be apart of the community, its a massive contribution from the Muslim community."

“It’s great to see (the town come together) this is what its all about, it’s a massive deal.”

Organiser Abdul Moulvi said: “It’s been fantastic to see everyone come down and enjoy what has been on offer.

“Eid in the Park is about knitting Blackburn together.

“It’s been good to see people from all walks of life, the young, the old, families, friends together and have fun."

“I would say even with the weather not being as good as last year, we’ve had an equally successful event.”
