A PROTEST will take place against the closure of a walk-in centre.
Accrington Victoria Hospital’s GP centre is due to shut at 8pm on June 17 (Sunday).
It will be replaced by a new system of GP access in the area.
But campaigners from the 'SAVE Accrington Walk-in centre' group have said the closure of the facility would have a 'detrimental effect' and put more pressure on the A&E department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and the minor injuries unit at Accrington Victoria.
East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group said the closure does not affect the minor injuries unit, x-ray or any other in-patient or out-patient service delivered from the hospital.
They said GP services remain available 24/7 through the patient’s own GP practice as usual or by ringing 111 at weekends or after 6.30pm week days.
Protesters will gather at the hospital entrance from 7.30pm on the day of the closure.
