THIS week, St Antony’s have chosen Adam Douglas to feature for their school teacher profile.

Mr Douglas, who has been at the school for three years, is currently the year six teacher and assistant head.

Before he started at the school, the sports enthusiast played football for six years in the United States, where he was offered a scholarship, and he is also proud to have represented Great Britain as a swimmer.

Throughout his three years at the school, Mr Douglas has always taught the same group of children, taking them through years four, five and now six.

Speaking about teaching the children, Mr Douglas said: “This class have become like my own children.

“I’ll be both gutted and proud in equal measures to see them leave to make the transition to high school at the end of July.”

Mr Douglas was always keen to work at St Antony’s, and being a former pupil of the school he knows more than most about how important the close connection between the school and the community is.

He said: “I went to this school with many of the parents, we quite literally grew up together and now we are raising our children together to be strong, resilient individuals, who defy the stereotypes that have been made about the Shadsworth area.”

With the support of headteacher Heather McGowan, who put Mr Douglas forward to feature in the profile, the teacher is passionate about engaging the children in sports and fitness.

He has been highly active in ensuring that the children take part in the Daily Mile as well as making sure the children have the chance to partake in extra-curricular activities.
