A DRUNK man claimed he had been involved in an accident in the early hours of the morning, police have said.
Police received a call from the ambulance service about a road traffic collision in Railway Road, Darwen, at about 3.55am today.
It had been reported that man was in and out of consciousness in the middle of the road claiming to have been struck by a car.
But when the roads policing unit and sergeant arrived at the scene in Darwen town centre, they found a man drunk in the road.
The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident by the railway bridge.
Force incident manager, inspector Steve Bradshaw, said there are 'no clear signs' to suggest there had been a collision.
He said: "The man was assisted by paramedics and taken to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
"The roads policing unit are currently progressing enquiries to establish the facts."

Please be patient and avoid this part of the town centre while emergency crews deal with the incident.
Thank you.
