MORE than 4,000 people came to Darwen to get crafty for the 'Makers of Market Square' event.

Blackburn with Darwen Council worked with award-winning Crafty Vintage to organise the craft and vintage fair at Market Square as part of the build-up for the Darwen Live event.

“It is what people want to see with handmade crafts and vintage items and arts and there is a boom in that at the minute.

“The exhibitors loved it and we would like to make it a more regular event and holding another one near the market.

“We wanted to bring people to Darwen and we spoke to a lot of people and they did come from out of the area so it is good.”

The fun event had something for everyone with some of the finest makers, creators, collectors, and vintage enthusiasts in the land.

There was also lots of live music, fine food, a cocktail bar which made will ensure a spectacular day.

Also among the attractions included pop up magic shows, face painting and Paul Flatley caricatures.

One of the main attractions was the Walk this Way Community Choir.

Laura said: “They were 40 local people and everybody enjoyed it and they created an amazing atmosphere.”

Blackburn with Darwen mayor Pat McFall opened the event.

Laura added: “We had a competition to design bunting flags and more than 1,600 children got involved and they were put up in the hall.

“I was the judge and there were winners from Sudell Primary, Avondale Primary and Les Enfants nursery.”
