A FIRE which took hold in the trailer of an HGV was put out by firefighters in the early hours of this morning.

Four crews from Blackburn and Darwen attended to the fire, which took place on Lower Eccleshill Road in Darwen.

It is thought that the fire started in the compactor unit of the loaded lorry.

Two hose reels and a stinger appliance were used to fight the fire, which was put out with minimal damage to the trailer unit.

Fire fighters were at the scene for approximately four hours and the fire is thought to have been accidental.
