THE first batch of new wheelie bins to replace a borough's recycling system have arrived ready for delivery over the coming month.

Hyndburn Council is replacing its current sacks and box scheme with two new wheeled bins for each household.

The final information packs about the new recycling arrangements are now being delivered to residents.

The first of the new bins will start arriving at homes after the bank holiday weekend and the scheme starting in mid-June for some residents and early July for others.

Cllr Paul Cox, cabinet member for environment, said: “This system means that we will all be able to recycle more efficiently and our streets will be cleaner, as the rubbish that sometimes blows out of the sacks and boxes on windy collection days will be contained."
