BLACKBURN'S King George's Hall was packed this week for an an inter-generational concert to remember those who died in the First World War and subsequent conflicts.

More than 450 schoolchildren sang at the event on Tuesday night attended by more than 2,000 people.

The Everyone Remembered concert raised more than £1,000 for the Royal British Legion charity.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllrs Colin and Jean Rigby, will attended along with many service veterans who have seen combat service in various conflicts since 1918.

Among the guests were The Vice Consul General of the republic of Poland Monika Rusiecka and several senior military officers.

The event is organiser Renia Memmory, a teacher at Our Lady and St John Catholic College, said: "It was a fantastic event and King George's Hall was packed with more than 2,000 people.

"They even had to open the balconies.

"It was hard work, very tiring but welj worth it."

Ms Memmory's interest in military commemorations was sparked when she sang with a group of pupils at the 2010 funeral of Glaswegian Lance Sergeant David Walker, fatally wounded in Afghanistan.

This week's concert featured a 450-strong choir of eight-to-16-year-old pupils from the secondary school in North Road, Blackburn, and its six feeder primaries.
