A CAR and a motorcycle thought to be stolen crashed near a town centre over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a collision involving a Vauxhall Astra and a motorcycle, which is believed to have been stolen, on Calderbrook Avenue, Burnley, near the junction of Manchester Road, just after 10.30am on Saturday.

It is thought the motorcycle was leaking petrol and was stolen prior to the collision and contributed to the cause of the incident.

Fire crews and police officers were sent to the scene along with an ambulance.

Firefighters later ensured there were no remaining hazards in respect of fire, spilled fuel or oil or debris.

A fire spokesman said: "The motorcycle wing mirror was smashed off and there was damage to the front end of the vehicle."

Paramedics treated one male casualty, who was thought to be the driver of the motorbike, before he was later taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Officers will speak to the rider about the alleged stolen bike after he has recovered.

No-one from the car is thought to be injured, police and fire crews said.
