A SENIOR councillor and Youth MP are to be stuck to a wall in a social media event to raise cash and awareness for fostering and Christmas presents for deprived children.

On Friday (May 25) Blackburn with Darwen Youth MP Elle Walsh and borough children's services boss Cllr Maureen Bateson will take on the Duct Tape Challenge.

To close this year’s Foster Care Fortnight, people are asked to donate £2 for a strip of duct tape which they will use to fix them in place with the strong adhesive tape.

The challenge and reaction will be recorded for social media.

Cllr Bateson and and Miss Walsh will be secured to a wall within Duke Street Children’s Services offices.

The event will raise money for Lower-Darwen based charity Secret Santa which helps 750 of the borough's under-privileged children to have a better Festive Season.

It costs £25 for a bag of presents which are delivered in time to ensure the youngsters wake up to presents on Christmas morning.

Cllr Bateson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a charity working hard to ensure less fortunate children of still receive presents.

“I would like to raise as much money as possible.

"Foster Care Fortnight has been fantastic in raising the profile of our foster carers and the hard work they do throughout the year.

"We must not forget children in the borough that don’t have some of the same privileges, and this is a good opportunity to give something back.”
