BLACKBURN will unite to celebrate Rovers’ return to the Championship.

Discussions will take place in the coming days to decide how to mark Blackburn Rovers’ promotion.

Tony Mowbray’s men have immediately bounced back to Championship following a season in League One after  a 1-0 win away at Doncaster on Tuesday evening, sparking huge celebrations from the 4,000 Rovers fans who made the trip to the Keepmoat Stadium to witness the occasion.

Skipper Charlie Mulgrew scored the only goal of the game to send the thousands of travelling supporters into raptures, as well as many thousands more back home in East Lancashire.

Informal talks had already taken place about how best to mark the occasion in the event of Rovers being promoted.

And now the job has been done, planning for the celebrations will intensify.

Former Blackburn MP Jack Straw said: “This is great not only for the club and its supporters but for the whole area.

“All credit to Tony Mowbray for some brilliant and careful management - and to the owners for sticking with him, and bringing in a new CEO.

“May we now be able to put the past difficult years behind us.”

Cllr Phil Riley, a Rovers season ticket holder and borough regeneration boss, said: “It’s fantastic for the club and town. Blackburn Rovers are one of the biggest brands in the town and when they are doing well it makes the area feel better.

“It will bring people to the economy as there are bigger crowds in the Championship and they may want to stay in our hotels and enjoy Blackburn.”

Boss Tony Mowbray has already turned his attention to next season after watching his side secure promotion to the Championship.

Mowbray celebrated with his squad and the fans at full-time but said he was already plotting the 2018-19 campaign in the second tier.

He plans to travel to India in the next few weeks, as he did last summer, to meet with owners Venky’s to put plans in place for next season.

And he pointed to the successes of Sheffield United and Millwall in the Championship this season, after promotion 12 months earlier, as a potential benchmark for Rovers.

Meanwhile, Rovers are offering a free beamback screening of Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic, which kicks off at 3pm at The Valley.

Fans will be able to watch all the action on the big screen,

Entrance is free for all supporters but to gain entry to Blues Bar, supporters will need a free ticket which must be obtained in advance on a first come first served basis.
