We asked our fans' jury: “How important was immediate promotion back to the Championship for Rovers?”

It's vital that Rovers returned to the Championship immediately. If not we would have lost players (we still may) and quite possibly the manager.

The horrendous lottery of the play-offs would have been a nightmare for the faint hearted like myself.

It is also vital that the squad is strengthened as the current team will be found out at a higher level and we would make a quick return to the wilderness of Division One.

Let's forget Wigan's arrogance, encourage the fans regained enthusiasm and grasp that flickering light at the end of our tunnel.

It's easy to get stuck in a rut in the third tier, just look at Sheffield United. They struggled to get out of the division for many years and every season it seemed to get tougher.

But in their first season back in the Championship, they have been in the hunt for the play-offs. As have Millwall, who only just scraped into the League 1 play-offs last season.

Away attendances may have dropped off had Rovers not sealed promotion, as the novelty of a new league and new grounds wore off. The backing the team has received this season has helped the players get over the line.

Rovers should look to continue this momentum and use it to their advantage next season.

Clubs like Norwich and Southampton both gained back to back promotions in the past decade, going from the third tier to the top flight. Rovers won't be expected to do anything like that, but it just shows what can happen when you get a good group of players and staff together.

But Wigan and Bolton have also shown how difficult it is just to stay in the Championship after promotion.

Everyone at Rovers has been pulling in the same direction all season.

The fans feel connected with the club again, and promotion has rubber stamped that. Tony Mowbray deserves huge credit for the way he has assembled this squad and changed the mood of the whole place.
