PEOPLE in Burnley have been asked to walk, run, hop, skip, jump or swim a mile next month.

The 'Your Mile Your Way' challenge aims to get at least 24,901 people throughout Lancashire to complete the amount of miles it would take to walk around the world.

Your Mile Your Way has been coordinated by Lancashire County Council as part of its Active Lives and Healthy Weight programme.

Leisure providers who deliver the programme in each area – including Burnley Leisure Trust’s Up and Active team - will all be running activities on May 18.

The campaign is being fronted in Lancashire by radio personality Ted Robbins who adopted a healthier lifestyle after suffering a heart attack in 2015.

In Burnley the walk will start from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal tow path at Finsley Gate from 2pm and finishing at Thompson Park Boathouse for light refreshments.

For those who fancy an alternative, you can join in by dancing a mile at Thompson Park and learn a FitSteps from 9.30am or line dancing routine from 10.30am.

People can also head to St Peter’s or Padiham leisure centres to take part in their respective gym, swim (64 lengths) or cycle challenges.

Up and Active manager Linda Searle said: “Do Your Mile Your Way and help us to make Lancashire the most active county in the country.

"Walk a mile with your work colleagues at lunch-time or with friends after work, or you could do it as part of your gym workout.

“It doesn’t even have to be done on May 18; it can be done any time during our health week – Monday May 14 to Sunday May 20.”
