A LANE on a busy stretch of road is closed for emergency works.

The closure, on the A675 at Belmont, is necessary due to a damaged retaining wall which needs emergency repairs.

The works, which have already begun, are expected to take two months.

During this time a lane closure has been put in place and two way lights are in operation.

A spokesperson for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “Unfortunately, it is inevitable that there will be disruption and delays during the period of the works, which is unavoidable, due to the need to ensure the safety of both road users and contractors.”

Engineers have been closely monitoring the retaining wall and have concluded that areas of the land have been found to have suffered from movement, likely due to the very cold temperatures and subsequent rapid thaws.

This has lead to the retaining wall structure becoming compromised and with the carriageway showing signs of movement.
