TALES of dragons, knights, kings and queens were part of Holy Trinity CE Primary School's St George's Day celebrations.

Youngsters in Year 3/4 took part in an action-packed afternoon performing a play about the legend behind the saint in front of their grandparents.

Year 5 pupils at the Darwen school took part in traditional English dancing followed by a choir and infants singing the national anthem and waving English flags with pride.

Jo Duckworth, deputy head and consultant at the school, said the event was a success.

She said: "The children loved taking part in the day and learning about the truth and tale of St George.

"The pupils learnt about British values which is a high priority on the school's agenda.

"We invited the grandparents to come and watch as we thought it would be nice for them to come as parents usually attend our events.

"This was the first time we celebrated St George's day in this way and we'd like to do something similar next year.

"The children and staff worked really hard."
