AN IRRESPONSIBLE motorcyclist was caught on camera performing wheelies and tricks with a child seated behind him.

In footage published by Hyndburn Police, two young men can be seen sat on the motorbike as it zooms past a parked police car near Thwaites Road in Oswaldtwistle.

Two officers sat inside the car managed to capture the moment the pair performed the wheelies on a busy stretch of road on video and consequently posted it on Facebook in a bid to catch them.

Other vehicles, walkers and horse-riders were also using the road at the time.

Ward councillor for St. Oswalds, Lisa Allen, said: "It's such stupid behaviour and they weren't even wearing helmets.

"When the sun is out they are a menace to residents lives. Young kids with bikes come out and they don't even just stick to the roads, they go on to public paths and parks as well.

"There are other children about and they could so easily cause an injury.

"We need to use to make the most of these images to try and identify them, it's good that we have them."

A police spokesperson said: "We were unable to pursue this bike due to safety concerns for members of the public and also the rider. At one point, there is a young child as a pillion passenger as per the video.

"Please can members of the local community, especially around the Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle, see if they can identify the rider of the bike in the attached video and picture."

People local to the area have responded to the post, with one user saying: "This has been going on for months around the streets of Oswaldtwistle, the police will only get involved once someone is run over."

While another added: "Wish they would all be taken off the streets. It's intimidating and deadly."

Anybody with any information about the identity of the men in the video should contact 101.
