A MAN has been charged by police in connection with an incident which left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

Hassan Khan, 19, of Lynwood Road, Blackburn, has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent after he was arrested following an incident which occurred on Thursday morning.

Another man, aged 19, has been bailed by police until May 14.

The two men were arrested following enquiries into an attack which left a 21-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers were flagged down on Thursday 19 after a man was found unconscious on Devonport Road close to Shaw Street. 

It is believed the victim was assaulted after walking towards the two men on the road. He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment where he currently remains in a critical condition having suffered head injuries and a collapsed lung. 

Det Chief Insp Marie Haworth, from Blackburn CID, said: “This was a cowardly, callous and unprovoked attack on a man who was knocked unconscious. He is currently in a very poorly condition in hospital.

“We are appealing for information, in particular anyone who saw what happened or can assist with our enquiries.

“If you know anything about the attack please speak to us as soon as possible.”
