Burnley viaduct
TODAY’S delve into the Lancashire Telegraph archives has unearthed this atmospheric image of Burnley town centre.
The photograph which was taken in the early 1980s shows the floodlit arches of the viaduct which continues to dominate the skyline.
On the left of the picture is the Town Mouse which is still standing today. The same cannot be said for Leo’s Co-op store in the foreground which has disappeared. The land on which it stood is now the Pioneer car park.
Burnley’s industrial heritage is clearly visible with three mill chimneys standing proudly and a host of former mill buildings and warehouses still standing.
